February 2010 Card Sketch

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

By Samantha Taylor.

Are you ready for another card sketch?

I love how universal this sketch is.  If you have trouble mixing and matching patterned papers, this is the card sketch for you. You can use stamped images, tags, flowers, it is truly the chameleon of card sketches. Here it is:

And here’s what I did with it:

February 2010 Card from sketch

The papers are all from February’s kit. It’s an awesome kit, that I just can’t seem to stop playing with. The ribbon and silk flower are February Kit add-ons. The middle flower was stamped on the packaging for the K & Co. lace frames (included in the kit), and then cut out. The stamp is also included in the kit. The very top flower is a Doodle Bug brad that can be found in the Scraptiv!ty store here.

As always, make sure to add your creations to the S! gallery or link them up here in the comments. I love to see your take on the sketch!

December 2009 Card Sketch

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

By Samantha Taylor.

I’m so excited to introduce a new blog feature to you today. On the 20th of every month, head here for a card sketch and example from the sketch. I have to admit, I love card sketches. They’re especially handy if you get in a creative rut, and they can challenge you to try something new.

If you’ve never used a card sketch before, the rules are pretty simple:
1. Have Fun!!!
2. Create a card (or 2 or 3) using the sketch for inspiration. You may use any paper, embellishments, stamps, etc. that you want. Feel free to flip the sketch (for example this sketch is posted as a horizontal sketch, but flips to a vertical sketch really well).
3. Show off your work. We’d love to see what you make with the sketch. Post it in the S! gallery, and also feel free to leave a comment on this post letting us know you played along. If you post a sketch inspired card on your blog or on-line gallery feel free to link it up in the comments too.
4. Give credit where credit is due. If you want to post this sketch on your blog or anywhere else, feel free to do so, just mention that you got it here at the S! blog.

So (drum roll please), here’s the very first S! card sketch. I can’t wait to see what you super creative S! fans do with it:

Here’s my take on the sketch (and yes, all those delicious papers and embellishments are from the S! December kit):

Fabulous Card: Step-by-step Project by CaroleScraptivity

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Created by Carole Stirrat, using November 2009 Scraptivity monthly kit.

Carole_Nov2009Card01

- Cut a white cardstock card base measuring  4½ x 6”.

- Cut a 3×4½” strip from Bazzill White Polka Dot embossed cardstock, and ¾x4½” strip from Core’dinations Black Magic.

Carole_Nov2009Card02

- Using Damask stamp and black ink, stamp image twice along bottom of card base.

- Adhere strips of Black Magic and White Polka Dot above stamped image.

- For flower, cut a 1” strip from 7 Gypsies Catalonia paper and, using as small of folds as possible, fold strip into an accordion.

Carole_Nov2009Card03

- Attach ends of accordion folds, inside out, with a staple. Then very gently turn circle inside out so polka dots are on the outside.

Carole_Nov2009Card04

- Flatten accordion flower and adhere with fast drying glue onto a scrap piece of cardstock punched with a circle punch. Once dry, affix a brad from your stash to the middle of the flower.
